The past has a vote. It doesn't have a veto.


There are a lot of things that get us stuck. But one thing that is particularly pernicious is the idea that if it always has been done a certain way, your new idea won't work. Another version of this is that idea was tried (halfheartedly, once) in the past, so there's no chance for it to succeed now. Listen up: The past has a vote, but it doesn't have a veto. The truth is, the past is a trap. It's not a great place to dwell if you want to get things done. And it certainly isn't here now....
